but, and this is the key point, they did no dishonour to the gameplay. But it was arguably two generations on from there. Oblivion came hot on the heels of that epochal title. It was a magic enchantment, cast on the player. Morag Tong, Dark Brotherhood, earning the respect of the tribes, seeing a living God with your own eyes, with subtly boosted polygon count and textures and custom animations.

Morrowind, when i finally completed it, was epic in scope and just wonderful. Because of it being a direct sequel to Morrowind. Oblivion is my favourite (EDIT: Between Skyrim and Oblivion). If I played Oblivion after it, I probably would be disappointed in this regard.

I'm playing seriously Morrowind only now though and I'm surprised how good the main quest is.

There were a lot of CRPGs with this kind of setting but not many with first person and a full 3D world. Cyrodiil is a typical fantasy region but it feels like home to me. Morrowind have a more interesting world, and better main quest. Looking at the map, searching for clues in the journal and doing your own route when traveling is much cooler though. Morrowind does not need it because the NPCs are static.

It would be a nightmare to find them without it. I don't like quest compass but I think it is justified since NPCs have their own routines. The combat is more responsive than Morrowind, stealth is better and much less broken, NPCs have routines and talk among them, which makes the world feels more alive, the open lock mini game is fun IMO, etc. I get how the streamlining hurts the game in many aspects but I think there are good additions too. I enjoy it a lot despite thinking it has the worst level scaling I experienced in any game.
